Journal Entry 2

Activity:

- Installed 2D Game Kit

- Played and looked how levels 1-5 were made

- Finished the 2D Game Kit Walkthrough -> Created one level

- Created second level and tried to make it more interesting

First level:

Second level (made mainly for the 2DGameKit Walkthrough):

Notes:

The installation process, exploration of the created levels, and navigating through the walkthrough proceeded smoothly without any issues. During the walkthrough, I developed a level which I incorporated as the second level of my build ("rolloj_TASK2_GameKit.zip"). The initial level in the build, featured in the first picture, is build to be more interesting and detailed. I also tried to do a bit of visual storytelling. Central to this level is a towering tree housing a crashed ship, serving as the spawn point for our player. Progressing to the right, players encounter a collapsed bridge leading to concealed chambers. To open the doors on the right the player needs to go to the left, push a box onto a pressure pad, then jump back up to activate the door mechanism, granting access to the teleporter to the second level.

What I struggled with a bit were the background tiles and layering of objects to ensure proper overlay alignment. Additionally, I had to make the level a bit easier because it was too hard (for me atleast). I also played with lights and checkpoints a bit which weren't explained in the tutorial.

The second level (second picture) is less detailed but I think it still looks ok. Here I played around with buttons and portals a bit more. The level ends next to a text which says "End".
